Heather has been designing websites since 1996. What began as a self-taught hobby transformed into a volunteer activity and then a side career to supplement her income during graduate school. Her first sites were developed for student organizations at UCLA and then for other university departments and centers. Her freelance clients have included many student groups, academic associations, churches, and small businesses.
She has recently been hired to spearhead the development of a content management framework for Humanities departments at the University of Washington (in the Dean's Office of the College of Arts & Sciences). Previously she was employed as a web developer and adaptive technology consultant at UCLA in the Office of Information Technology, where she divided her time between the Academic Application Services Web Team and the Disabilities and Computing Program. Her responsibilities included developing websites and web applications on a variety of frameworks, such as Plone, Drupal, and WordPress; training students, staff, and faculty on adaptive software like Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText, and Kurzweil 3000; and performing web accessibility evaluations.
With a Ph.D. in English (UCLA 2008), Heather is skilled at writing compelling copy for a variety of audiences. She is a keen analyst with the internet savvy and people skills to find the best solutions for your business or organization. As an experienced teacher (she taught sixteen English courses at UCLA from 2000 to 2009 and frequently trained faculty and co-workers on using technology), she can explain complex technical processes and tools in plain terms. So you’ll always understand the rationale behind the technical solutions you’re adopting.
When not working, Heather enjoys spending time with her family, watching television, playing videogames, and exploring the outdoors and amazing national parks of the western U.S.
